In addition to the components, design and process, it is important to consider what the rubric will be measuring and how it will be used. Rubrics are used for formative, peer, self and summative assessments, and the type of feedback they generate should be appropriate for what each rubric is trying to assess. I will give careful thought to the purpose of the rubrics I use so that I will be able to accurately measure what is intended.

One of the qulities of a good rubric is its reliability. Do th eratings represent whatstudents can do and would raters who have similar understandingof what is being assessed give similar ratings to the same product from a student. Is the rubric fair and valid, sothat it is measuring the submitted work on a level field and does not contain biases or challenges that are unfairly distributed among the student population being assessed.

The most helpful information in this section is that the institutions may already have strong and reputable rubrics, and that many online sources have templates of all… >>>

The outcome to be be assessed by a rubric could be a performance, a process or a product. An analyticrubric would be used to assess a process, providing criteria for each step, and a holistic rubric should be used to assess a product. In this way, the rubric might serve to highlight areas of strength and areas for development, and to show talents and learning styles. This could lead to use as a diagnostic assessment tool or might serve as… >>>

So far, I have learned that rubrics are helpful to the students to guide them in the development and production of their work, and they are also helpful to the teachers in planning the instruction, staying focused on the objectives and in evaluating the learning and the instruction. However, rubics can be complex to develop. The more holistic the rubric, the less helpful it will be in defining especific expectations; the more analytical the rubric, the more time-consuming it will be to prepare and the less useful in evaluating creativity and other factors affecting work, such as effort and time… >>>
