About me

Hello. I am  Nurse Educator. Happy to meet you all.

Good Morning!

I like to set the tone of how serious the nursing profession is and important it is that they are serious and dedicated to the program, as it is rigourous, nonethelss, it can be done!

From there I encourage them that though it is hard and we are firm, it is a great profession and they can do this!

I am famous for saying "You got this!"

It always amazes me how they are encouraged with those 3 words. Sometimes that is all that they need; just a little push.

I agree that this works about 80% of the time, but what happens when you throw the ball back into their court............" all I did was ask a question! She has a bad attitude". Sometimes student's perceptions are twisted into thinking that we have to give them all of the answers. In the roll of controller, it is stated the same, where is the median?

Good morning everyone!

As a nursing instructor, here on the Raleigh campus, I have used quizzes for this very reason. This term, I had a student to report me to virgina beach stating that the quizzes were too much to handle and that she thought that they served no purpose. Push back from students who report instructors to the powers that be is a deterent in the classroom. Therefore I give homework assignments instead of quizzes in that class. Any ideas or suggestions.Has anyone else had students to complain?

Hello all,

I am an instructor in the nursing department. Over and over we( my colleagues and I ) continue to encounter students that are abrasive and present with very negative attitudes. These very students approach instructors in intemidating ways, be it with words or gestures ( using a cell phone in the class despite previous instructions not to use the cell phone in class). I am finding that there are defiant adult learners that refuse to do things per classroom rules and/or ECPI policy. My observation has also been that those same students are the ones in the class… >>>

@JErickson Thank you so much. This is eactly what I did! :-)

Colleagues,

I have recntly expereinced a student who stated that had she taken this class under someone that she liked then she would have been successful. She is a repeat student who failed again this term. My question is, how often do we as faculty remind the students that this learning experience is a two way street. We stress that when content is missed that it is the student's responsibility to contact us and/or another student for review of the content and any information that may have been missed. In addition to this, this student attended tutoring but did not… >>>
