Activity

I learned about reflections and course evals. I have a lot of good takeaways from this module. One thing I always do to help me stay focused is to keep the end in mind.

Making sure students are learning and engaged by stimulating activities

When I am finally able to return to my classroom instead of online, I would like to change something. For starters, when I show videos I would always turn off the lights-no more! I will add some music and arrange seats to engage students. I always have treats for students so I have this covered!

What words to avoid and what are better choices. Also, I had a habit of calling out students because no one would answer my questions. I did not realize that I may have been calling out a shy student. The last thing I want to do is make a student feel uncomfortable. I am going to change the way I call on students from now on.

I try to incorporate different learning styles into my lectures. My problem is all my objectives for the class are important and I never know which one to actually focus on. I have been learning to take 2-3 objectives and break them up into 15-minute lectures. Within each one, I then do a learning activity to drive home my lecture's purpose. In my online classes, this has been challenging. It is hard to keep students motivated. I have been asking a question in the chatbox to ease any anxiety for the class. I also make sure I am mentally prepared… >>>

I found this module very interesting and I learned a great deal. I am one that I know faces but I am horrible with names. When I first started teaching, this was one of my fears and it still is. Currently, my classes are online so I do not have trouble with this. But eventually, we will return to the classroom. My goal is to use the tips discussed in this module to make sure I know my student's names.

I was surprised to find that a lot of what was discussed are things that I am doing as a new Instructor. However, I know there are some things I need to work on. For example, I think my syllabus can be more detailed and maybe have an additional course calendar or maybe a checklist that the student can use. I really enjoyed this module and took a lot of good notes for future recommendations.

I really enjoyed this module and took a lot of great notes and have some things I like to work on. My take-away is that I need to model the behavior that I want my students to model. If I want them to have a successful career in HIT and I am constantly telling them this, then I need to make sure I am following suit.

As a new Instructor, I learned what and how to incorporate teaching methods that enable advancement in technology. As I prepare to go fully online with some of my classes, I need to think about what is the best technology platforms to use. This module gives me something to think about.

Having a plan not only gives me a clear direction but it gives the student a sense of "she really does know what she is talking about".
When I do not plan out my class, I get a sense of major anxiety and I know my students can sense this as well. I have to plan each of my classes. However, sometimes I have a hard time coming up with appropriate active learning. I am hoping this course will help.
