Asychronous means that the instructor and student are not in the same place and time. So you can still have students come into lab and complete the work on their own time. Lab techs can be available. 

Constructive feedback on asynchronous labs so students can reAttempt the lab to gain a better understanding. Deadlines need to be thrown out and the course should be more fluid. Giving students a weekly schedule is good to keep them on track but remember why students are choosing to do the asychronous courses. It is because they need to manage multiple things. 

Blogs, discussion threads are a good way for students to self reflect and share with each other. This provides a good connection between students.

Reply to Cori McGhee's post:Interesting. What do you do when a student didn't choose that learning format? The pandemic is a good case for many. So many students said they don't learn well in online. I don't blame the students. They are amazing at focusing to other online material. I think we need a better way to develop online asychronous material. Our methods are too outdated. Our theories are good. Community of Inquiry is a good model. We just don't take chances with trying new methods. 

I think we know what is right abd wrong. If you are trying to take advantage of someone in any way, then you should not do it. Are the penalties a good deterrant. I would like to see numbers on how many penalties were collected. 

we all lose our perspecitive every once in a while. Being near your phone and social media increases your chances to send something that doesn't reflect your best side. One bad post sticks out like a thorn and it will take so much goodwill to have people put that aside. It is not the end of your online presence. because there will come a time when everyone forgets and moves on to the next bad post by someone else. Get back up, no body cares anymore of you wrote.
