Activity

I feel that questioning technics really get the students involved with the topic. You will have weak and strong students in your class. Ask both types what they think of the system being discussed or how it works There is no right or wrong, just ideas, write them down on the board next to the system or topic that you are discussing. Some answers may be off in left field, but they are thinking about it. Start writing some facts down about the system that does not give them any direct answers. The object is to have them come up with… >>>

This is very important. You need to reach you whole class, there is no better way then understanding how they learn. With big classes it can be tough. I like to have them in groups and generally the will end up with other individuals with the same learning style. It makes teaching to the different generations a little easier and every one has a better grasp on the material.

Having a book in front of you and a power point can help you but there are various additions that prove useful. Having hard parts that they can pass around as well as drawing specific systems in the board and having them copy them aids in the understanding and retention of the topic.
After covering a topic I will break the groups down by their tables. I will write down the main systems we are discussing on the board so they know what the topics of our discussion will be. Have each group add an explanation of the system to each topic and discuss the answers amongst the groups
Many individuals that I have worked with over the years have tried to rely on technical skills to instruct a class. I have seen many of them have issues with classes or some individuals in the class. It is very important to be able to understand soft skills and how they can effect a course. Before taking this course I kind of new what soft skills were but not to the extent I do now.
I remember when I was in school years ago. All students were treated the same, disabilities discussed here were not really recognised back then. Having the ability to receive training on this topic greatly improves the facilitators ability to recognise issues earlier on to get them assistance as soon as possible. This will give students with disabilities greater success in their training and their future imployment.
It is very important to understand the issues some students may have concerning there disabilities. Being able to accomidate there shortfallings may help make them become more successful in the career path in which they are taking.

As students progress through their courses they tend to loose sight of their goals and start to emphasise on the negativity that some portray around them. I feel it is important on the first day of every new class to have the students share their primary goals with myself and others in the class. It seems to help renew their drive and helps remind them why they wanted to get into this field of training to begin with.
Having my students for 3 weeks I am usually successful in turng there negativity around. Unfortunatly, my classes are near graduation. If we can get all instructors on the same page it will make a world of difference
