I learned that effective teaching requires clear objectives, strong alignment between instruction and assessment, and the use of frameworks like Bloom’s Taxonomy to support student learning at different levels.  I plan to apply this by writing clearer performance objectives, using action verbs, and designing lessons that move students from basic understanding to higher-order thinking and application.

Essential teaching strategies include direct, interactive, and independent instruction to support different learning needs.  In a culinary lab, I would demonstrate skills, have students practice together, then let them complete tasks on their own. This helps build confidence and real kitchen skills.
 
 

New literacy includes digital and media skills along with reading and writing. It focuses on evaluating and creating information.  I will use technology and assignments that help students practice these skills.

It focuses on finding, evaluating, and creating information across different platforms.  In my practice, I will use technology, including multimedia tasks, and teach students how to evaluate sources and communicate responsibly online.

Literacy is more than reading and writing—it also includes understanding and thinking critically about information. It is essential in all subject areas.  I will support literacy by using a variety of texts and integrating reading, writing, speaking, and listening into lessons to meet different student needs.

Engagement in UDL is the “why” of learning and focuses on motivating students. I learned that choice and relevance help increase student interest.  I plan to improve engagement by giving students more choice and connecting lessons to real-life examples.

 
Action and Expression focuses on how students show what they know. I learned that students should have different options like writing, speaking, or projects, to demonstrate learning.  I plan to offer more assessment options so students can demonstrate understanding in ways that fit their strengths.

UDL Representation is about how information is presented to learners. Students understand content differently, so using multiple formats like text, visuals, and audio helps improve access and understanding.  I plan to use more varied materials and supports to make learning more accessible for all students.
