About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Andrea, Sharing practical involvements outside the classroom can be very beneficial to students. Students need to know about the real world. An instructor's outside personal life should not be shared with students. It is very unprofessional. Patricia
Hi Vicki, It sounds like you certainly have a positive instructor image. You look and act the part. Students need someone to emulate. Thank you for being a role model. Patricia
Hi Dawn, I concur. We must give our mediocre students some attention as well. They want to have interaction with the instructor also. I make it a point to small talk with every student daily. Patricia
Hi Sheila, It is very nice whenever rules/guidelines are indicated on the syllabus. Students have something to refer to, and the syllabus means it is etched in stone. Patricia
Hi Michelle, You are on point. Sometimes the discouraged student simply needs a boost. Having a successful graduate guest speaker who had some challenges, but made it, is an ecellent way to prove to students that in spite of it all, you can be successful. Patricia
Hi William, I totally agree. The instructor is the authoritative figure, therefore the instructor controls the classroom. Without rules, you will have total chaos in the classroom. Students want the classroom to be controlled by the instructor, not the students. Patricia
Hi Daisy, It is good to know that you make a conscience effort to give your students what they expect. A happy student is one who feels as though they have gotten their money's worth. Patricia
Hi Dorothy, Students need to be monitored. After all they are students, and they are learning. We need to be active so that we can provide constructive feedback. Patricai
Hi Lucy, It is good for students to see the other side of us as having humor and being friendly. It is important for students to know that we really do have pleasant personalities. Patricia
Hi Sandy, Yes, the sooner the better. It is never good to let things linger, then things really do explode. Patricia
