About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Faith, You may want to try prewriting your notes so that you will have something to go from. As an instructor we should use basic writing skills to be an example for our students and not use text writing skills in the classroom. Patricia
Hi Robert, It is vitally important to let students know how the course will benefit them in their career. Students will buy into the course whenever they know that the course will be helpful. Students love knowing that the skill is going to make them marketable. Patricia
Hi Jane, Success stories shared with current students are very motivating. Online students are inspired by success stories as well. Patricia
Hi Randall, I certainly understand your perspective. I have been teaching for over 22 years, and I have a tremendous amount of practical experience in the courses I teach. I have found that although I share my personal stories/experiences with my students, they enjoy them, but they become even more excited when a guest speaker comes in and present and validates/reinforces what I have taught/shared with them. Guest speakers serve as great resources to break the monotony. Patricia
Hi Faith, What a great purpose to have in life. I am sure you have impacted many lives over your career. Continue to make a difference! Patricia
Hi Brian, I do the same thing to let a student know that their problem is not unique to them. There are students that are going through or have gone through the same thing, and they are making it or made it. Patricia
Hi Glenn, Very smart way to reel in the quiet students. I really like how your first question is opinion based, which encourages students to respond. Patricia
Hi Evelyn, Interaction is a good way to keep students focused. Active learning is what students are most interested in. Patricia
Hi Mamie, I agree! Students really need to fully undertstand the impact that cheating has on them. Students will do what it takes simply to pass that test. They really do not look at the overall picture. Patricia
Hi Eddie, Listening is key! Angry students really need to vent and fully express themselves. Patricia
