About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi,SEPTIMIU, Students love it when we make learning apply to the real world. They understand the importance of knowing the material when learning is practical. Scenario-based learning makes learning as it applies to the work world. Patricia
Hi Melissa, The more you teach a course, the better you become. I have been teaching for more than 22 years, and I still tweak my repetitive courses each time I teach them to try to make things that much better for the students. You also figure out what topics in the course that students will always find as a challenge. Patricia
Hi Unidad (Ning), Students love knowing that we geniunely care about them. Students will work harder to please you if they feel you care about them, thus resulting in better grades. Patricia
Hi Marcia, Visuals add great clarity for students. Patricia
Hi Therese, I concur! Instructors must show in their actions that they are the one in the classroom with all the authority. Patricia
Hi Daniel, I also like to mention the potential income in their future field every opportunity I get. Patricia
Hi Timothy, Anything a student has to do the insructor should have already done it, i.e., if a student has to do an assignment on the computer, the instructor should have already done the assignment beforehand so that they know exactly what is required of the students and if there are any problems. Patricia
Hi Scott, What an awesome response! I like your perspective. I agree whole heartedly. You used some great analogies. I can tell you do a fantastic job to minimize cheating. Patricia
Hi Shantel, Great list! These are sure ways to generate buy in from students. Patricia
Hi Nancy, I really like how you brought back the basics to students to get them to see that you always have to go back to the basics with a lot of different things. Patricia
