About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hello Penny, It is very important to get to the root as to why the student is unfocused. Try to help as much as possible, if things are beyond your scope, get an expert involved. Patricia
Hello Barbara, You are on point. We need to use our relevant personal stories to aid the textbook. Students want us to share our experiences. Patricia
Hello Barbara, As an educator, It makes you wonder what did we do before PowerPoint came out. It's an awesome package; I use it all the time. Patricia
Hi LE, Absolutely! Students want to hear those stories that are relevant. As educators, we may be able to mention something in one of our relevant stories that will help them. Patricia
Hello Dee, My belief is simple. I simply do not believe in mixing professional with personal. Most students can care less about your personal life--they want to learn. Patricia
Hello Dee, I know instructors that will move this type student to the front of the room. Also, it is good to let the student be the leader of various group activities. Patricia
Hi Dee, It sounds like you do not tolerate the foolishness. I nip things in the bud as well. You have to let students know that you are not playing. Patricia
Hello LE, I know, these center-stage students can be very tiring. It sounds like you do a good job balancing this type student. You allow the student to have their moment. Patricia
Hi Lisa, I like it how you hold your students accountable for reading the syllabus in its entirety. We have to encourage our students to read more, as you are doing. Patricia
Hi LE, Instructors must be good listeners. As you mentioned, just by having a student express themselves, generally, the problem will get resolved easily. Patricia
