About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hello Grace, Consistency is key! Rules are made to be followed! Patricia
Hi Carla, You are on point. The older student has so many different problems, and we as educators must do the very best we can to let them know that they still can finish college. We must encourage and support them. Patricia
Hi Russell, I make it a point to ask every student a question because I do not want anyone to be on the hot plate. The students see that I am asking everyone. Patricia
Hi Beth, I like the idea of a no stupid question time period. I always reiterate to my students that no questions are stupid questions because there is probably someone in the room with the very same question. Paticia
Hi Carolyn, Nicely said! As instructors, your focus should not be about winning a popularity contest. You focus should be on making sure the student learns the material so that they can perform in the workplace.
Hi Jennifer, It seems as though you have great testimonials to share with your students. You can testify as to how your training prepared you for the real world. Patricia
Hi John, I like that additional idea as well. I can see how that can add even more fun. Patricia
Hi John, You are certainly clear, and I am sure your students can appreciate your clearness. It sounds like you are strictly business. It appears that your students know exactly what to expect. Patricia
Hi Carrie, I love anecdotes. Students think all the answers are right. all the answers are plausible, but there is only one correct answer. The student really becomes interested in learning why or why not. Patricia
Hi Susan, For some people it is hard to go down a level. Some people feel as though they must be in control, otherwise things will not work. I like to make this type student leaders for various group projects. Patricia
