HI Dennis - Thanks for your post to the forum. As you point out it really is important to check for understanding while you are lecturing rather than waiting until you have finished. It saves having to completely back-track. I really liked that you mention you sometimes learn new approaches from your students - this happens to me sometimes and I make sure that I praise my students for their useful input. Best wishes! Susan
HI Jackie - Welcome to ED 103! You are so right- many of our students are products of "spell-check". They can not spell and with all the shortcuts in texting etc. grammar has also declined. The days of diagramming sentences on the blackboard are sadly - gone! Beswt wishes - Susan
Hi Ricardo - I completely agree. Not knowing the general eduaction skill levels of students is like driving at night without our lights on. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career! Susan
Hi Kirk - Thanks for your post to the forum. Your approach is active learning at its finest! As career college educators we need to focus on not only that our students learn, but also, will they know how to apply what they have learned in the workplace? Best wishes! Susan
Hi Brad - Welcome to ED 103! Teaching to the learning styles is challenging but really pays off for the students and instructors find that they enjoy the variety and opportunity to be innovatine. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career! Susan
Thanks Marcia - I appreciate the info and will check it out! Susan
Hi Mark - Thank you for your post to the forum! I have worked at large universities, small private colleges and career/tehnical colleges. I have found that there is considerably more one-on-one work with students-faculty in the career/technical schools. Best wishes! Susan
Hi Alicia - Welcome to ED 103! With self-assessment the student is arriving at the information themselves which I find often makes them more accepting of what they find. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career! Susan
Hi Chris - I loved the options that your instructor came up with! Students really appreciate having flexibility and innovative instructors can arrive at some great ideas. Best wishes for coninued success! Susan
HI James- Welcome to Ed 103! As you point out, by demonstrating the concepts relevance to their own lives, you capture the students' interest. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career! Susan
