About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Tom, Good point. Teachers are models in all that they do and say. We have to always remember this as we conduct ourselves as professionals. Gary
Hi Cynthia, You are exactly right. The tools, equipment and supplies have to be there and available for the students. They shouldn't have to race to the classroom in order to get what they need. As you say this really reduces the motivation of students and raises their frustration. Gary
Hi Martin, Creativity is essential for this group. By recognizing that your instructional method needs to illustrate that for your students you are doing a good job customizing your instruction to meet the specific needs of your students. Well done. Gary
Hi Kathy, Well put. Each student want to know "will I fit" into this class, meaning how well am I going to be able to be successful in this course. By setting a positive tone many of their fears will be reduced and they can concentrate on getting settled into the course. Gary
Hi Valentina, Students really welcome the knowledge they have an instructor that cares about their success and is available to help them achieve their career goals. Good job of making yourself available. Gary
Hi Paul, I think this would be great. The opportunity to show their abilities to others plus be of service to the charity partner should be a great motivator plus an incentive for other students. Gary
Hi Emma, You are right on with your comment about the need to target your praise for students. This is really customizing instruction to meet their specific needs of praise, support and encouragement. Well done. Keep up the good work. Gary
Hi Karen, I agree with you about the fun part of seeing a mixed class benefit from the experiences that others have. It is easy to forget that many of the "pups" don't have working knowledge of many of the items, technologies or language that we have made a part of our daily lives. Gary
Hi Russ, This is a great way to visualize the current group of students as you look at those that you have had previously that have the same characteristics. This makes your instructional planning much more accurate. Gary
Hi Missy, Your approach really helps your students to connect with you and develop rapport. This is so important as you work them through the course and the see how the course fits into the overall success potential they have. Gary
