About me

Activity

I use music when my students are doing their projects. Music that is not too harsh or too soothing, a nice classic rock, it seems to work.
I try to get my students involved by asking a question and then have them share what they believe is the answer.
First impresions are very important. The first night of class i try to remember the students names. i have had students tell me that they were very impressed that i took the time to learn their names, they have had instructors in the past that never did know their name.
Creating a connection with your students isn't easy. Most people need lots of time to trust another person. My job is to recognize that a student is suffering and then to try and get them to open up. A lot of students won't do that. You have got to earn their trust.
I see that "outside the classroom stress" is a bigger influence than the "classroom stress". My students want to be here, they want to do well, but it's the outside stuff, the everyday life stuff, that brings them down more than the classroom.
I have seen that students who have perfect attendance do not drop out. Those students that miss time and get behind the rest of the class tend to drop out more often.
I have found that by learning their names the first noght of clas makes a big impression on the students.
Discussion Comment
I like to explain to my students exactly what i expect from them and what they can expect from me.
Discussion Comment
It is extremely important for students to find out where the departments are in the institution they are attending. This can save them time and anxiety.
I have had this experience myself while going to school, and i have seen it in my own classrooms.
