About me

Activity

As an adult learner, completing my Master's at 43, beginning at 41. I agree with all the age diversity points with the exception of groups activities, especially for a high % grade. My goal was to receive A's for the first time in previous education. Group grades may prevent the completion of that goal. My only B + out of 12 total grades was from a group project.

Our particular students enjoy hearing situations that happen in the industry and how they can apply their learning. I tell them that several of the concepts we teach look good on paper, but they need to find their own style of managing and it will not happen overnight.
I had 16 years previous experience before teaching and continue working in the field while teaching. On 70 % of final course evaluation students refer positively to how I relate course work to real life experiences. I relate situations to what they experience on the jobs while in the class.

Previous management was very clear regarding prepare for anything. Having enough materials if copies not made, technology failures and possible lack of enthusiasm. This has helped through the years. Similar to a restaurant; think on your feet.

When I first began teaching I was a rules follower and had no deviations. After attending a Master's course with Professor Hughey, he showed you can maintain the rules and standards; but also be an approachable and compassionate educator. I became a better instructor, positive report with the students and my final course evaluations increased dramatically.
