I teach a course HRM Procedures, after students complete an American Service practical. I specifically note one thing each student is excellent or extremely special at. It makes the student feel individualized and proud of a specific accomplishment.

Easy to Navigate - I teach how to build a website to market your business. If the site is not interesting or too difficult to navigate the individual will become frustrated. Time Understand the time contraints that individuals will have due to outside commitments: Family, full time job, possibly other course work, etc.

Asking the students what level of participation do they want. The learning objectives are for the students and too much interference from the instructor may prevent this.
Discussion Comment
Previous instructors would add sound to power point slides that were not relevant and distracting to students. But, in the wines course the lead instructor added a person pronouncing the wine to assist students and it was extremely relevant.

I think this area is more challenging than in the classroom. When you have face to face contact, you can see a student struggle more quickly than on-line. Daily communications would be imperative to see early signs.
Discussion Comment
I think engaging a student in on-line is far more important than a traditional classroom due to the distraction factor someone may have working from home. A job, family, and or technical difficulties. If frustration levels rise, the participation will be effected

I use the student bio's for a class that is a 3 hour course for HRM Procedures students. I need to know what their life experiences are to better manage the class. Less experience will require ground up teaching as opposed to more a less a refresher course.
Discussion Comment
After reviewing this material. I feel there is a higher level of maintenance required for teaching an on-line as opposed to the traditional classroom.

Being the generation Y is more of the visual learner and needs to compare to another learning model. I feel it is imperative to have a variety of tools to illustrate a point.
