I often give rewards to my students when they have accomplished a goal or I see they are going the extra mile they get extra credit on a homework assignment. I'll offer extra credit points on flash cards. Not only do they get extra credit for them but it's a very useful study tool. It helps keep them motivated and gives them something to strive for and it's also a self-esteem boost when they achieve a goal. When they feel good about their accomplishments then they are going to try even harder and be more productive and other students will feel their excitement and will feel motivated to work harder.
