About me

Personal Bio

My name is Georgette Jones and I have been an instructor here at Miller-Motte since 2013. I grew up on a farm with my grandmother; therefore, I consider myself a country girl at heart. I have a passion for technology and all of the things that it allows one to do. I love traveling, gardening, writing, and spending time with my family. I just completed my first animated children’s book for the iPad, so I am very excited about getting that published in the iBookstore in the next several weeks. This was a pet project and I learned a lot in the process, since I had very little experience in this technology. My next goal is to develop a read along app for the book.

Brief Bio and Professional Experience

I have over 19 years of enterprise IT experience, working in both the private and government sector, for major corporations such as Hewlett Packard, AT&T, Proctor and Gamble, UPS, King and Spalding Law Firm, Savannah River Site nuclear plant, and Georgia-Pacific to name a few. The technology field is so vast and I have been blessed to work in just about every area at some point in my career. I currently do IT consulting with one of the largest technology companies in the world in the area of Storage Area Networks.

I am also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Phoenix and Miller-Motte Technical College. I facilitate several business and technology courses on-ground and on-line. I enjoy teaching and feel this is what I am passionate about. I think I now truly can understand the statement, if you enjoy what you do, you will feel like you never work a day in your life. I also enjoy sharing my knowledge with my students and hope that I am able to make a positive impact on their lives.

I received a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems from the University of South Carolina, a MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management, and currently pursuing a PhD in Information Technology from Capella University. I have three additional classes left in my PhD coursework.

I could not agree more because many of the students are new to college and/or the on-line experience.

I really like the Labsims because they give students hands on experience.

What are some of the biggest challenges you face teaching online?

I believe that a teacher serves as a role model, leading the way by example through meaningful participation and professional communication. My approach is to not merely give students information but to pull information out of them. This is an excellent way to enhance student’s critical thinking skills; which is a valuable skill when trying to solve real world problems. The goal of the teacher is to serve the needs of students by realizing each student learns differently. Therefore, multiple learning styles should be used when facilitating course material. A teacher’s goal is not only to instruct but also to… >>>

Hi Tammie,

Yes I do agree that these are some challenges as an Adjunct because I also work full-time as well. I try to get up really early before work to try to complete most of my work for the day.
