Setting the stage

As career instructors we have to set the stage for our students. We are their role model and they are looking to us to guide them into a career. We have to be on our best at all times for them to see and respect us as  true professionals in our field of expertise. If not, we do not gain their trust, and hence, our retention drops!

I so agree with you. There are so many negatives in our student's lives that being a positive role model may just make the difference.

I completely agree. We are their role models in their profession. My instructors and I teach dental assisting. We all wear scrubs, proper footwear, minimal jewelry, etc. We dress how they will be expected to dress in the field and we expect our students to do the same. We teach the importance of communication and working as a TEAM.

Being a positvie influence in our students lives within school I think is a great help   they all need some positive feedback

We have to assist our students to achieve their education aspirations. This is the ultimate educator goal.

I thoroughly  benefited from Ed101.   As an instructor in a career environment, my expertise lies in the field

in which I worked for many years.   This course communicated facts and ideas to me as a first-time instructor,

however, which were very informative and insightful.   I was very happy to learn that I am already applying many of

the suggestions given in this course to the course I teach simply by using common sense and remembering what it was like

to be a student embarking on this particular field.  Knowing this gives me more confidence and impetus to constantly improve my

class each time I teach it.  I did gain insight into areas of teaching (which is not my area of expertise) , and I intend

to implement what I have learned in my impending class this fall.

One of the most important jobs we, as instructors have is to be a role model for our students. This means that we have to be on top of our game at all times, regardless of how our day is going or how much stress we are under. So many of my students really have not had a significant role model in theor lives and we, as instructors often find ourselves in this very important role. As a result, we have to do the best we can to guide our students. Their careers and lives depend on our efforts.
