Hello Jacqueline I agree adult needs different learning styles.  Everyone learn differently I'm more a hands on vs. lecture.  This was a great topic and I enjoyed the presentation.  Gave me great insight on adult learning. 

Adult learners is a special group of student population in the sense that they have some acquired knowledge, developed their own skills and habits which need to be reinforced, improved or sometimes corrected. They come to the college for formal training in the hope the that they will pass the course and be certifide to prove their proficiency. These learners are self motivated because of their standing in life. After reading and understanding this course, I can now think of  ways to impart my knowledge and skills. and be able to have graduates who will be appreciated in their workplaces. Lastly,  with the improvement in the teaching and learning process we will have people who are reliable, skillfull and with good attitude towards job and others.

I strongly believe that inorder for the students to be successful they should be exposed to different learning activities.

Different learning activities keep the class intresting and stimulating. We as instructors are constanly learning what works. Each group is different.

Juanita, Your comments are so true.  When people have never taught before, they sometimes do not understand that each day takes preparation because each class is different in their learning.    I acknowledge you for your efforts to plan different class activities.  My book How to Survive and Maybe Even Love Health Professions School, Retention and Career Planning Guide has a chapters on Learning Style, Activities based on Learning Styles, How to Study, How to Take a Test, and How to Form a Study Group.  I also believe that teaching is very different from lecturing.

I also think the course was very informative, and gave idea's to keep the students focused and interested. With decoding, and the other learning modalities the students can be successful. The many ideas will help with the young, first time student, or the adult student as well.

I agree that we as instructors must always improve upon teaching methods that are successful. Building upon those stratages that work can only enhance the students expierence and increase the instructors enthusiasim. It is quite rewarding when a student provides positive feed back on a project that encouraged thier understanding. I also find that rethinking and restucturing previous successfull methods also alows the instructor not to get "stuck" teaching the information in the same way increacing enthusiasim all the way around.

 

I agree that a variety of styles is necessary to encompass the whole class.
