Student success

Teaching is an ongoing learning experince for both the teacher and the student, many times we may have to change the class for instance maybe the class is moving slower then expected because this group needs more time in a certain area or maybe the class needs to move faster because this group of students need more stimulation.  What ever is happening we need to be student focused and always have the student in mind.  It is important to be able to be flexible to modify and revise if things are not working in the classroom.  Also it is important to stay focused and always be organized.

I usually have the opposite problem - the students work quickly to finish a project, and then I have to have osmething else for them to do.  One recurring problem is with in0class activities: there is also at least one swift student who finishes quickly and then needs something else to do while we wait for the slower ones to finish.  I would be interested to hear how other teachers handle this.  You can't just keep assigning more work for the faster few.  It wouldn't be fair to make them do more worksheets, for example, than everybody else.

Look at your project and access how long you think it should take.  Is it challenging enough, make sure it isn't just busywork, what is the planned outcome, how does it relate to the skill set  the student should should take with them when the course ends.

Each course I evaluate all the homework assignments and projects to be sure they are still relevant, challenging and are specific to the course outcome.

Student Success is very important.  Commitment from both sides is necessary for that to happen.  There are students, who for whatever reason, end up in my program not having a clue what it is we, medical billers and coders, actually do.  When they find out, they decide that they don't wan to sit a t computer all day.  I am not sure why this occurs, only that the student is not listening during admissiions process or is not listening during orientation.  It is very unfortunate as all of us, my instructors and staff, have  tru passion for what we do and many years of experience and we love to teach.  Those students wh get it are very successful in the filed.  those students who had no idea what they were getting into, suffer as they still have not found what they want to do in life.  We always want the best for our student, their success is our success, however, the student have to want  o be successfull just as much as we want it for them.
