The Admissions Rep of the Future

So I'm curious what others think about the admissions rep of the future.  Will successful professionals of the future need different skills than what we've had in the past?  If so, in what areas?

Yes, the representatives of the future will have to be very resourceful when it comes to things like JLIVE Chat (an instant messaging service) and Facebook.  They have to understand the limitations and restricitions of what is appropriate to say and discuss in these forums but how they can help the new generation relate to the representatives.  Also, the use of text messages and smart phones is going to be critical in communicating with prospective students.

Great points Stephanie. I totally agree. Using different modes of communication will surely be essential to connecting with students. So I wonder...how will compliance be maintained if admission reps are offered the flexibility to communicate using these new technologies-especially if out there for the world to see!

I have to say that I try to use the most up to date forms of communication when reaching out to "new students". The one thing I always try to get across to the student, they need to come into my campus and talk to me face to face to get the full detail of what "we" have to offer at my campus.

Doesn't empahsizing a "face-to-face" seem almost like a "hard sell"? Obviously we that seeing/touching/feeling the product and the environment makes it more "real" for a prospect, but how else can you get them in the door?

It’s a process and a technique you have to learn.
