ED115 - Soft Skills for Instructors

ED115 – Soft Skills for Instructors is an excellent course for all instructors whether they teach on-ground, online, or blended courses. The course is especially helpful because it not only identifies the ten most important soft skills for instructors but also discusses applications of these skills to the role of the instructor.

Very helpful

The soft skills module although not new information is very informative.  These particular skills are taught in leadership and management forums as well.  I think the ability to effectively relate to others using the skills presented in this module is a formula for success in many areas, not just teaching.  These are life skills that can help you grown as an individual if you can internalize them.

An important ingredient of soft skills is work ethic. Professionalism has everything to do with how you conduct yourself while in the workplace. Some of the most important ingredients that stand for professionalism include appropriate dressing sense, integrity, optimism and enthusiasm. These are the skills that make a good manager or a leader. Having these leadership qualities ensure that you successfully complete the given assignment and contribute towards the business growth of the company.

I agree with Denise and Jill. Integrity and work ethic are skills to be nurtured in ourselves as well as our students. Bringing the best of ourselves to work/school each day inspires those traits and skills in our students.

Many people naturally have soft skills more developed than hard skills, but others seem to have the technical aspects down pat but struggle with the soft skills. Since I am teaching in a technical field, perhaps too much emphasis might be on the technique, and this course helped me to focus more of my attention on the soft skills.

This course certainly reinforced my soft skills! Sometimes we need to step back and evaluate ourselves a bit in order to become better in the classroom.  I emphasize professionalism in the  classroom  and often take an entire lecture period discussing how important it is for success in the workplace.  Sadly, I feel  professionalism has gone by the wayside, especially in the medical field.
