ED101: Effective Teaching Strategies

The most that I got out of this course is that it refreshed my memory on general policies when starting to teach a new class.  Other than that, I honestly did not get that much out of it.  As an instructor, we all need to understand the importance of setting an example and proper preparation.  I would have benefitted more if this course had introduced newer techniques on classroom management and preparation that I had never heard of before.  I already know how to develop a lesson plan, course syllabus, etc.  Like any other student, I needed something new and refreshing in order to stay engaged.

I totally understand where you are coming from. I find that being in the field as a clinical instructor, that the dynamic is a little different then in a classroom setting. Yes, there are  course syllabi handed out that give them a breakdown of what this course involves. The hard part of being an infield teacher is the hands on approach to applying there classroom knowledge into working knowledge and practice. Having them understand that all that they have done through the years has prepared them for this moment of applying the skills and the book knowledge and hopefully landing themselves a job. Sometimes the lights click on and for others it takes longer. So, having a centralized classroom would be ideal but its like training them to be out in the wild with basic survival skills. i would have wished and hoped that the benefit of basic curriculum planning would have given me more ideals in keeping them more engaged. And not just feeling like they are auditioning in a blacked out theater.

Hi Angela,

Thank you for your comments about ED 101 and the desire for some additional content.  ED 101 is designed for beginning instructors that may not be as familiar with the foundational aspects of instructional planning as you are.  MaxKnowledge has a sequence of courses that move the participant through different levels of instructional developmentand expertise.  For example, we have courses that cover ED 104  Class Management Strategies, ED 105 Instructional Planning for Student Success and ED 108 Learning Theory and Practice.  In addition, we are always in the process of adding additional educational courses in response to feedback from educators like yourself. By reviewing these additional course titles you will be able to find some professional development opportunities that will be of valu to you and your teaching career.

Thanks again for your comments and if you have additional comments, please don't hesitate to let us know

Best regards,

Jane Davis, Training Manager

I think that most online workshops are common sense but if you take the time to complete them correctly I think we can all get something out of anything

Teaching is an on going process, a learning experience for me each mod that goes bye.

Like I said, the one thing that I did get out of this course was that it refreshed me on general policies and procedures.  If this course was indeed intended for newer instructors, that should have been made more clear within the course description.
