Since I teach Woodworking, welding, and construction. Safety test and safety instruction is taught at the beginning of every class and reinforced throughout the year. For them to be career ready this point of safety can never be underestimated.
Safety is important and if the basic guidelines are not followed it can be the responsibility of the teacher if someone were to get injured.
I like the idea of doing quick safety check-ins at the beginning of class to reinforce the need for following safety protocols. In the laboratory environment there are a host of hazards. We must work hard to ensure our students understand the hazards and how to avoid them.
Safety in the lab environment is upmost important. The need to highlight the importance of safety in the lab to the students requires addressing at each lab class. The failure to address wearing PPE's in the class breaches the duty if the instructor in the class.
