One of my biggest takeaways from this module is the importance of treating safety as an ongoing, shared responsibility vs. a fixed set of rules/procedures. I found the NIOSH Safety Checklist Program and the concept of Job Hazard Analysis highly useful. These resources offer structured ways to identify potential hazards before incidents occur.
In my role, I regularly encounter situations where instructional needs intersect with facility conditions, equipment maintenance, and safety considerations. I intend to apply what I've learned by exploring how these existing resources support more consistent lab and equipment reviews, clearer documentation of potential concerns, and appropriate follow-up with the individuals responsible for technical assessments. I also appreciated the emphasis on involving students in safety assessments, as this helps connect classroom learning to authentic workplace expectations.
