CTE High-Quality Framework: Prepared and Effective Program Staff --> All Aspects of Industry
Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.
This module gave me more precise language for my current practice: "all aspects of industry" means the full breadth students are expected to learn (planning, management, finances, health and safety, labor and environmental issues), so instructors have to be credible across all of it. To apply it, I'll build teacher externships into my professional development plan as the clearest lever for giving my industry-from teachers genuine current exposure, and use my Industry Advisory Council to inventory the specific skills and practices each pathway needs so currency stays deliberate and planned.
Staying current is important. When I was in industry the “it” job was to work for the yellow pages and Twitter wasn’t even a thing. Today the YP is gone, and Twitter has become corrupt and goes by a new name. Navigating new tech is important across all industries as our students will be released into the new world, not the world we once knew.
I've learned how important for teachers to pour into themselves to increase their knowledge and understanding of the industry in which they teach. All CTE teacher should attend relevant and meaning professional development opportunities, build industry specific network or employer partner, join professional and or technical organizations all in an effort to stay current and abreast. I can encourage CTE teachers in my district to take advantage and seek out these trainings and or relationships.
