This module gave me a clearer picture of what happens to data after I enter it. I've always known Perkins reporting happens, but I hadn't thought much about verification, validation, or the systems behind it.
The Texas automated coding system stood out—districts submit course records, the state codes students automatically, then sends it back for districts to confirm or flag errors. That's a level of accountability I hadn't considered.
I am learning a lot from this course on CTE data types and collection and it is making me be more reflective as a CTE building level assistant director, in terms of what types of data are we using. Areas of needed improvement in the bigger picture, and creating safety nets in terms of validation, etc.
Santa Rosa County utilizes the Xello platform for students to complete career exploration type activities and can record their certifications and create e-portfolios to submit to potential employers. Our school conducts exit interviews with a career specialist to help them with interview skills and resume writing. We utilize FOCUS software to track all of the data components to submit to the state for reporting purposes. We stick to a survey reporting calendar to make sure that all data is reported to the state in a timely and accurate fashion.
