I learned more on how to deal with different learners in online classes. For example, I can deal with 'intimidators' by directing them to the grading policy and explaining how it applies to everyone, or I can contend with quiet students by reaching out to them directly in a private email.

I have learned some of the benefits of asynchronous over synchronous meetings. Some students may dominate discussions that take place in real time if they are competitive, so allowing discussions to unfold at different points allows all students the opportunity to contribute their voices to a topic.

I learned how providing a brief biography of myself and asking students to do the same can help foster engagement and instructor presence in the course. In addition, I learned how revealing my own credentials can help establish my authority in the class early on.

I learned the importance of structuring the CMS for an online class. When students are able to navigate to materials and assignments more easily, this can prevent frustration and encourage engagement in the class.
