Shane, I agree. My director here at ACC reminds the new  hires that, no matter how many times one ends up saying certain bits of information or even work related anecdotes as the years go by, it is usually the  very first time that each student has heard that information or story. I am always asking myself, "Did I say THAT yet to THIS group of students? Hmmm..."

Although none of my training is in the Theatrical Arts, I must admit that acting is a large part of my teaching style. I have even let the students in on that little "secret" - with some of my students it's not the best idea for them to act like they do at home. I encourage developing a professional persona that they can be, instead - at least until their employers have had some time to appreciate the good work that they do.

That I can relate to...

I have actually let my students know, on occasion, that who they see at the front of class is not necessarily who I really am. It's an attempt to get across to my adult students that, yes, you can be who you really are...    at home. Often, our true self must be modified for public consumption. And I believe teachers feel this sometimes more than anyone else (aside from actual actors)...
