About me

I work at the school in Atlanta, and enjoying teaching students about media and the 3 phases of production. I myself am a writer and video editor, working on projects involving both outside of classroom.

I agree somewhat. Sometimes, some processes don't change. There is nothing to think about. I have worked at jobs where it was just continual -- do the same thing over and over...but in a history course or a writing course, critical thinking is necessary so that you can adequately develop thoughts and get those thoughts on paper.

Unfortunately, students don't have the option anymore, from what I'm seeing, to have writing classes, or classes where they have to put thought into the process. No one does research papers anymore...There is no going to the library and finding resources...instead,… >>>

...Another result of our dependence on technology. We are creating a world where we can't really interact in personal situations. Facebook, My Space, that space and all spaces keep us from experiencing real emotional connections. Interpersonal communication is going to be lost in the cyberspace of technology--why, I've even heard that, now, when young people want to 'date'...they do it via a text message...How can you hear the intonations, or the expressions of a human voice like this?? Has anyone read E.M. Forster's "The Machine Stops"? This short story was written in 1909 and he hits the nail on the… >>>

The lesson states we as a society (this includes our students) have become too dependent on technology and governmental involvement...I couldn't agree more. We are too dependent on technology and I fear this will come back to bite us where it really will hurt. We want to throw out the pen and paper and now have everything 'online' or electronically uploaded. This is going to be a problem in the future!!! Students coming into college at the age of 18 do not know how to write in cursive writing--but whose fault is that? It is the educators'. We have failed… >>>

Just finished this course, and found it chocked full of great information and ideas to jumpstart memory learning for students, to find a way to reach them through visual and other means of communicaiton that will implement and drive home the learning point. Some 'knowledge' must be quickly grasped, particularly with technology, and what I tell students a lot of times is that alot of technology is simple repetition. It comes down to doing the same thing over and over but in a creative outlet every time.

Sometimes, students ask a question and he/she will say "This is probably a stupid question..." but a very wise professor who I highly regarded in my undergraduate studies set us straight the first time someone said that. He told us, "The only stupid question is the one that's not asked." That for us as students provided an open atmosphere where we weren't afraid to ask any question for fear it would be stupid or senseless, or whatever. To this day, I use that same line.

I like using the chalk board, and I agree that the best thing is to write the information as you discuss the information. I think this is a more effective way of re-inforcing, too, what I am saying, as I discuss, then write down my point, and review the point afterwards.

I thought it was interesting, too. Some areas I have needed more help on but didn't really think through it that much were in the course. I look forward to implementing these things just around the corner at the new term.

I sometimes have a student in class when I ask questions during lectures who always IMMEDIATELY answers the question so that no one else has a chance, even if you are looking directly at another student. Any suggestions for politely saying 'let someone else answer once in a while!'
