It was helpful to learn that students may consider active learning to not be learning and not a good use of their time. It is important for the instructor to make sure they understand the importance of active learning. 

Active learning is very important, I already apply it in my classes by having students work on collaborative group activities in each class. 

Feedback from multiple sources is a good idea. Typically I only get student feedback but it's good to know of the other ways to get it. 

Personalized feedback is critical to helping students understand where they can do better and help them improve. It's also important to focus on what else they can do to help them maximize the score. 

I use scaffolding to help students build on what they already know. We explore case studies and other scenarios to determine what they should do. 

Consistency is key and I already maintain a database of assets that I can use across multiple terms. This also helps keep students on track. 

Managing conflicts and helping students focus on the topic at hand is critical to ensuring that they are able to learn in the most conducive environment possible. This chapter covered useful tools to manage this in an online environment. I have taught some disruptive students who can try to distract from the main task at hand so managing such interactions is critical for overall success.

I teach both synchronous and asynchronous classes so the information was useful. The ideas for engaging in an asynchronous model were particularly helpful and will aid in connecting with students and enabling the learning process. 

I learned that it's important to engage and interact with students on a regular basis. We also covered ways to build that relationship virtually and I use many of those approaches to introduce myself to students and build that bridge to developing a relationship. 

Clarity and good communication are critical to enabling students succeed in the class. The structure, platform and infrastructure can play a very important role in enabling this success. It is also important to help students participate and engage in the virtual classroom.
