Adapting to the increase in technology use by students is imperative. Allowing students to use technology properly can be a helpful tool.

I think having learning goals each day is impactful. I have a learning goal for each unit but not each day.

I like the idea of setting up a cue with a student to let them know you are going to call on them. This allows them to feel included and engaged with the content like all the others in the class.

It was reassuring to hear that while accommodations may be made at the postsecondary level, students with disabilities must understand and be able to cope with their disabilities in their careers.

I was unaware of how many different types of learning disabilities there are. Learning about each one and how to help those students is very helpful for my classroom.

I was unaware of how reading develops. It is very interesting to look back and see the different stages as my own children learned how to recognize letters and sounds. I can now look at those students in my classroom and understand that may not have progressed through each stage.

Being able to admit that you do not know everything and can make mistakes is a great way to build trust with your students. Learn from the mistake and allow it to make you better next time!

My biggest takeaway is to listen first. Don't immediately become defensive. Allowing the student to voice their frustrations before interjecting may be a great way to begin to diffuse the situation.

How to deal with the "center state" student was greatly beneficial. I always struggle with trying not to discourage their attentiveness and willingness to discuss topics.

Communication and clarity seem to be keys for a successful start to a class. Making sure the students know the expectations is vital.
