Activity

In "Projecting Your Presence" module, we first reviewed strategies used in a traditional in-person classroom setting.  We then learned ways to convert these strategies, to fit and to work with an online classroom setting.  I learned strategies for an instructor to show their presence, to establish relationships, and to be interactive, in an online classroom.  We have to be creative in finding ways to establish instructor-student and student-student relationships in an online classroom setting.

Through "Course Delivery" module, I learned that it is important to familiarize oneself with the CMS.  Becoming familiar with CMS - knowing what it allows instructors to do, and what it allows students to do, will help in effective online teaching and learning.

Through "Delivering Course Content" module, I learned about different learning styles and different lecture formats and delivery options.  I can apply these different formats to maximize the class' understanding of the material.

From the "Meeting the Class for the First Time" module, I learned methods that can be applied for conducting a successful 1st day of class.  I learned that it is important to take into consideration the 1st day from the student's perspective - that they might be nervous about meeting classmates, meeting the instructor, and about the class material also.  As an instructor, we should address those concerns by incorporating some ice-breakers so that we can all get to know one another, and by going over the syllabus and class expectations.

From "Planning and Preparation" module, I learned about the different instructional components, such as goals, objectives, and methods of instruction.  I learned and will apply that it is always good to be prepared and to keep a notebook/checklist to make sure tasks are done.

From this “Developing as an Instructor” module, I’ve learned about the “Five C’s”  (Credible, Candid, Compassionate, Committed, and Clear).  I will apply the Five C’s as an instructor by staying current in the field, and also current in the field of education by learning from peers and other resources, and taking continuing education courses like this one.
