REFOCUS is and important tool

Setting up high realistic goals is important. Also instructors should not create competion in class. It is important to encourage students to work together.

Cultural competency is important to encourage students.

Incorporating different learning modalities is important. Some studetns learn better when they read, some of them learn better with visual aids.

It is important to let every studetn know that instructors care about their success. Knowing a name of a studetn makes a big difference s they feel special. 

Being prepared, knowing the syllabus, objectives, methods of assesment are important. Objectives must be clear and precise so students know what they have to study.
