Activity

Having a variety of ways to teach what you want students to learn is important because everyone learns differently. Also it is important to chunk you lessons into about 15 minute sections so students absorb  the information better so you do not lose they attention.

The first day is filled with lots of expectations, setting your expectations and getting to know students.

Getting to know the students and trying not to overwhelm them with information is key. I have students participate in a hands on activity to get them up and moving. This allows me to go around the room and talk to students individually. Being in high school the first week of class students change schedule a lot.

It is important to know students names as quickly as possible. Do not rush your 1st days lesson plans.

Engage with students as they enter the classroom. A connection with students is important.

You may not be the smartest one in the room but your ability to motivate and teach students what your passionate about will encourage them to learn.
