There are times when students offer a gift of some sort such as a gift card or even a cup of coffee from the local coffee shop. I always have to inform them that I appreciate the gesture but I cannot accept the gift.

FAFSA application

There are times when a student will ask a financial aid officer, such as myself, what information should they use in order for them to receive the most aid. It is important to always inform the student that they have to answer the questions truthfully because if they provide any false information or they can become liable in facing some type of penalty.

Transparency during the enrollment process

I believe it is important that prior to a student enrolling, he/she must have a tour of the campus and meet with financial aid. Prospective students need to be informed of all required documents in order to complete their fafsa application and some documents may be difficult for some to obtain and may require them time.

Doing the right thing in Financial Aid

When a prospective student is brought to financial aid to receive and introduction, it is important for financial aid officers, such as myself, to inform the student that financial aid is available for those who qualify. I stress the fact that I cannot guarantee if and what they will qualify for in financial aid at that moment because I do not want to falsify any information to them.
