antonio, This is a great observation. In fact, I add the appropriate, learning objective to the guidelines of my course assignments. This way, students are aware of how the assignment connects with the ultimate goals of the class. Tremayne Simpson
Todd, This is a great way to conduct an exam or course review. I have used the game-style format for review and I have noticed that the students' competitive nature, is generally the "driving force" in the retention of information. Once we have played the game in class, the students are generally ready to take the exam. Tremayne Simpson

John, This is an effective method for assessing the time that it takes to deliver a lecture. In addition, it enables you to review the content and add additional questions, depending on the amount of time that is taken. Tremayne Simpson
Warren, In addition to this method, it is also a good idea to collaborate with the instructors that teach the pre-requisites of your class. Building a working relationship with those instructors, will ensure that the classes are aligned and that the students are well-prepared when they enroll in your course. Thank you for your post. Tremayne Simpson
Matthew, An informal conversation is a great way to fully gage your students' backgrounds and prior knowledge of the subject. "Setting the tone" with these types of discussions on the first day of the course, can really work to "break the ice" and establishing a positive classroom environment. Thank you for the post. Tremayne Simpson
Jeff, Excellent usage of technology. In this example, all students will feel that they are a part of the class demonstration, regardless of their vantage point. Also, you will not disturb the "flow" of the demonstration by constantly asking if all of the students are able to see or hear the demo. Tremayne Simpson
Anthony, This is a great use of instructional resources. More than likely, the student may not remember the actual definition of "force", however they will remember the demonstration using the "crumpled paper" as an example of force. Instructional resources can provide the students with the "neural traces" that are important for them to remember forgotten information, well after the class has ended. Tremayne Simpson

Anthony, I agree...if it a suggestion is viable it will benefit the course (if it is implemented). Also, students are making observations from a different perspective than the instructor, therefore their suggestions could assist in the delivery of the preset course materials. Thank you for your post. Tremayne Simpson

Jeff, I agree as well. A daily lesson review provides the students with a proper transitional period, before they are introduced to a new lesson. Also, it is a good way to see if the students have retained information from the previous class discussion. Tremayne Simpson
LeeAnn, This is an example of the type of experience that students are seeking in the classroom. Any time an instructor can present materials that are not commonly found (in provided course supplemental material), the students feel that they have received an authentic learning experience and it encourages them to attend and participate in class. The students may not be as engaged in the course, if the instructor is not innovative and simply uses the provided materials (i.e. textbook), during the lecture. Tremayne Simpson
