Hi Laura We feel building an employer list to be very important. And there are many ways to do that. Relationships with employers and prospective employers offers many opportunities as you point out. The more creative then the more opportunities develop. Thanks, Susan
Hi Krisitn Sounds like you are getting other people and departments in your school to look to Career Services for valuable information to help them do their job. Great idea to connect a prospect with a graduate. There is a great comfort level talking peer-to-peer and reduced pressure. And very good to get the prospects focused on the goal (getting a job) even before they enroll. It's important the this goal is reinforced throughout the students school experience. Thanks, Susan
Hi Laura Really a great focus on using the internet and social networks to build a base of employers and jobs. How do you localize your search? Also Monster, etc. often includes jobs other than entry level. We think a good combination of calling on local employers plus using all the internet opportunities is a good mix. Using the internet helps those grads who will seek employment out of the area. Bottom line, you've pointed us to other opportunities using current technology. thanks, Susan
HI Krisitn Sounds vry effective. It seems that you are doing whatever you can to gain a personal relationship with your students. The more you know then the more effective you can be in coaching each one in the areas they need help. It could be confidence, work ethics, effective speaking, dressing, etc. Looks like even dealing with the state exame Career SErvices is doing a great job. Few schools think about encouraging the student to save for the expenses of being a graduate. Great points. Thanks, Susan
Hi Laura This is great. We also believe that placement training starts on day 1. We like the way you relate attending school to building work history. Students are also learning work ethics by showing up everyday and on time! Thanks, Susan
Hi Laura Sounds like you have a great program with several learning opportunities. How are placement results? What do grads indicate they would have liked to have as employment skills training. How quickly do they find employment? All this analysis will help point to the effectiveness of your placement program. Thanks, Susan

Really extremely well said, Glenn. It is our theory that the Placement Department is the most important department in the school. Certainly it can influence admissions reps to enroll qualified students who are likely to graduate. And as you point out, admissions has to have information from placement to tell the prospect about employment results and expectations. And admissions certainly has to qualify and collect information that will be vital to student success. Every employee in the school is responsible for student success. The goal is to empower faculty and staff to realize this and give them the tools -… >>>

Hi Christopher. Yes,time is a challenge. If you can find the time upfront to put a plan together it might be able to be implemented by a part time administrator. The trick is finding the time to set it up right and test the plan and figure out ways to evaluate it ongoing and when to check in with the admin to see how s/he is doing. Nothing takes 5 minutes. Good luck, Susan

Hi Christopher, Your response provides many opportunities for continued thought and public relations plannng. You certainly participate in a lot of community events and have given other viewers many ideas for all that is possible. You are right that you have great exposure. You probably need a bit more control over it. For one thing do you let the press know about the events and do they take any photos and place in their papers? What about the PR department of each organization? They should be able to do something in terms of getting the word out before and after.… >>>

Very good Corey. We also find it effective when a school offers placement services just about on the first day of school. Students need to realize that preparing for work is part of their training and has to be built up over time. It's not a skill that is learned in a few lessons. Actually it is an attitude and a sense of confidence developed by learning about work ethics, the workplace, and also effective resume writing and interview skills. Can you share with us what you are doing at your school? Any thoughts about what additional employment skills and… >>>
