Hi Ivonne, All really great ideas. Bottom line is there are many ways to connect with employers and many ways to stay connected. It's important to use some kind of customer relationship management system. It will help you create and keep lots of information updated and have ways to keep track of following up. Thanks for the details. Susan

Hi Ivonne, Great that you are working with faculty to integrate employment skills training into the classroom. You have many great strategies so students learn the skills and gain confidence. Are all your offerings required? We find that to be effective the students must be required to complete all excercises and employment skills tasks. Then they take it all seriously and of course benefit. Yes, all exposure to employers is very important. Makes the employers human and the employers can give practical tips about how to be effective on the interview. Your students have every opportunity to be successful. Really… >>>

Exactly our thoughts too, Mindi. We feel that a great Placement Dept can drive a school. The more admissions people can talk about your unique placement services and results the better the enrollments. People go to school to train to get a job. Their eyes are always on the job. And yes, happy grads are very valuable. They provide referrals and know about other job openings at their places of work. Thanks, Susan
Hi Judith, Great idea to include community involvement as a requirement for your staff. Career schools are an important part of the community and it's essential to put your staff out there to formally and informally learn about needs and changes. Are your employees assigned a community contact or task or do they decide if they will participate in an organization, contact employers or ? The goal is that everyone can look to the school as a resource. And that the school is attuned to the changing needs of the community. Thanks, Susan
Hi Johanna, Very good and to the point. Job descriptions don't have to be lengthy. They do have to be complete enough so that a similarly competent person can take over if that person is absent. It's called cross training. We find that bullets and work flow descriptions really work. Also forms that are used should be included. Also IT interaction. Thanks, Susan
Hi Karen, You are right that placement services impact on every department. It's vital that the admissions reps know where grads can get jobs and have a good picture of employment success. Instructors need to know what services placement offers in order to remind students to check them out. And of course students and grads need to know about your offerings because the main purpose of enrolling is to get jobs. thanks, Susan
Interesting situation, Johanna. It's the goal of any business to operate at a profit. In the beginning it does take a while for a school to break even. While working towards profitability it's important to look at the goals of each department and the funding to keep it effective. Each department has expenses and goals whether admission numbers, student retention, or placement. Staff have to operate efficiently and cost effectively. It's important to streamline and avoid duplication. We look at the outcomes for each department and what the reasonable costs are to reach them. Thanks, Susan
Great Judy. Thanks. This will get passed along. Susan
Yes, Lois. It's important that admissions get good results. And the results should be good if placement is doing its job. There is lots of information that can admissions reps can use. This includes information about the job market, what placement department services include, what kinds of jobs grads get, how long it takes to get a job, salary ranges (must be verifiable, where grads work, and more. Of course being able to say most grads get great jobs would be nice and something to aim for. Thanks, Susan
HI Judith, Thanks for the valuable information. I could do some research or just confess that I don't know anything about cloud. So maybe you can point us all in the right direction. We have heard from other schools how effective texting is and also social media. It does allow you to stay connected to the student and that is the name of the game for retention. Thanks, Susan
