It is true that most adult learner tend to be independent, confident, and demonstrate a desire to learn because of their age and experience. I found that many of my adult learners will initiate learning, with or without assistance from others. These learners are usually highly motivated, and task oriented.

As an instructor we must demonstrate that our students are our partner in the engagement of intellectual and personal growth. They help us gained insight on how to be a better teacher. And as teacher, we help students think about and articulate what is important to them in their academic as well as their personal lives.

As an instructor, I've learned that  active listening skill is important because it confers both verbal and nonverbal cues to our student. It shows that we care to their concerns, comments, and questions.

Students are not customer. A customer-oriented instructor follows certain guidelines such as listen attentively, treats each student fairly and equally by creating a close interpersonal relationship with a student to minimize any negative effects.

I’ve learned that for majority of my students. The responsibility for a family and the need to earn an income is perhaps the greatest barrier to student retention. As a student myself, I know what it feels like to feel completely exhausted at the end of a workday. Therefore, one of the best ways to keep students from leaving school (and prevent issues before they arise) is collecting direct feedback them regularly.
