Does anyone out there have students that have jobs that are not understanding to there going to school? If so,how do we as instructors help this situation? I try to find out where they work and see if employment can help.Students tell me they feel lucky to even have a job with the economy the way it is. They just do there best and try to stay awake. At our school the students are not allowed to sleep or put there heads down. This is hard on Instructor and student inforcing this rule. Students sleeping in class looks bad to people… >>>

One of the taughest things I have had to do is to teach while sick. Its hard to motivate when you feel like hell. I would like to hear any ideas or answers to what to do when ill other then not coming to work which is not always an option.
I have a student this course that shows no emotions not even facial ones.He is very smart and does every thing well. He does not hardly talk to anyone including me the Instructor. I did get him to laugh and after two weeks he does talk more. Does any one have some advice on how to get him out of his shell? He is going to have to talk to customers.Help?
There are ways to read your students from day one,I stand at the door and great my students on the 1st day. This gives me several opservations too see the following: 1.To see for proper hygene 2.Proper Shoes 3.I.D and safety glasses 4.Attitude 5.Who they hang out with. 6.Where they sit. 7.To greet them. 8.Show them I care about them and the rules
I have seen some students get so involved with outside events (out side the class room)that they have a hard time in the class room and there grades start to fall. So I recomend to them to put there studies first then there job, then see how much time they have left for the other. What is a good rule on this? How do they know how much???What advice should the teacher give???

As an Educator,Has your school ever sent you to a class on how to tell if a student is taking drugs or have you ever went to a training class on first aid and how to save someone? I think this is a very important subject that is often over looked.I would like to attend this type of training.I had an event happen in class not to long ago, that with training I might have prevented some bad things from happening.

What advice can you give me on how to handle my peers interupting my class? This seems to ruin the mood. (Flow) The students seem to not like this at all.

I know as instructors we are not necessarily here to entertain but I feel if you can have fun with your students they will warm up to you faster, pay attention and want to come to class. Who ever said learning cant be fun. I have had great success with this method for the past 12 years and my retention averages about 96% I am interested in other teaching styles,we can all improve.I look forward to any comments.
