Possible fix:

If the student continues to ask questions, interrupting the Flow of the class, and distraction / frustrating other students simply make the students question an assignment for the student.  “Good question. Please research that and turn your findings in to me by Friday” Or, “Good question. Please research that and report your findings to the class by Friday”

If your student is trying to manipulate / control the class try this. Redirect the questions to your other students. Soon the other students will handle the problem student. Peer pressure is a subtle but sometimes effective classroom control method.

Tip! Creative animations in PowerPoint. Select the clipart you are working on. On the Drawing Tools – Format tab find the Group icon. From the dropdown select Ungroup. Say yes to the “Do you want to convert” dialog box. On the Drawing Tools – Format tab find the icon Group. From the dropdown select Ungroup a second time. Your clipart is now individual objects. You can move these objects by hand during your presentation, or apply animations from the animations tab. You can also create your own animations by duplicating the slide, moving an object on the second slide, duplicating,… >>>

PowerPoint in the dark. My old projector just doesn't have enough candlepower to be seen. If I turn off the classroom lights and partially close the curtains we can see the projector, now they can't see to take notes. Some of my students got the idea of using head mount LED flashlights. Great for note taking but not so good when they looked up at me. Just like being in the spotlight! The fix? Goose neck LED lights that plug into the USB port on front of the computers we have. Works just fine. Regards, Terry

Part of this lesson is about older learners. In fact one of the quiz questions is "One of the common fears about college for adult learners is:" And the answer is: "Feeling at a disadvantage compared to others" I went back to school (Community College and then University) in my mid forties. I did not feel I had a disadvantage. Quite the opposite, I felt my focus, life experience, vocabulary, and lack of distractions were to my benefit. Most of my students are older than the average 28 years for career college students. I hear every day the "I'm too… >>>

For those that have worked with, or at least looked at LMS systems, what are their flexibility, adaptability, and options? I once wrote a spread sheet for a school to do grades. Surveying my fellow instructors I got requests for “straight grades”, “drop the lowest quiz score”, “push the highest score to 100 and move all other scores up by the same amount”, and “let me add points to all students”. (I was able to provide all these options) Do any LMS have flexibility in any of their functions? My experience with any computerized learning tools is inflexibility. Regards, Terry
I’m on a 12 week cycle in which students come on board at any time (class) in the cycle. Therefore I have a first day with a student, or students, but usually not a first day with an entire class. How cal I accomplish tasks that a first day requires when on the first day of any class I have new students, continuing students, and students ready to graduate? Help. Terry
