Harold, Thanks for recognizing that rubrics are good for the instructor and student. They also help students understand what course objectives connect to the assignment. Including the objectives in rubrics helps students understand "Why are we doing this?" Thanks!
Claireann, Me too. I love formative evauations. I do summative as well to help me and the students understand whether they met the learning outcomes of the course. Nice job.

Claireann, Providing a detailed syllabus with clear expectations and learning outcomes is essential. Providing projects and assignments in a variety of ways to help those who learn in different ways is also important. Thanks again.

Claireann, You are exactly right in that not everyone comes from the same place. Everyone comes to your courses with different experiences, knowledge and skills. When students understand what is expected of them and understand how their projects/assignments are connected to learning outcomes, everyone does better. Thanks for your input.
Andy, The portfolio helps see how students have grown in their work, but many times is difficult to grade as different students grow at different rates and have different skills. Try a variety of evaluations. Thanks!
Nicole, Being positive is important. Some people call their feedback the "sandwich" - Constructive criticism sandwiched between positive comments on the front and back end. Consistency in your feedback and frequent, timely feedback is also important. Thanks.

Melissa, Thanks for your input. You have some good ideas. Getting to know your students and developing a community in your online classes is important. And, communicating your expectations and other aspect of the course through a detailed syllabus helps everyone. Forum questions can help students learn more about each other and the content. Thank you.

Nicole, Good points! Keep up the good work. I like that you said would contact the student personally. Many online instructors don't do this. Nice job.

Nicole, You are right. Rubrics help both the students and teachers. Thanks again for your input.

Melissa, You bring up very good points. Students must know.what is expected of them and must have good communication in the online course. As you noted, learning where students are coming from is also important. Thanks for your input on this forum.
