Cathleen, Right on! Appropriate communication and technology that enhances the communication are key. It's necessary to evaluate the technology tool that you're using to make sure it's what you need. So many times people use technology just because it's there, but it may not be the right tool. Thanks for your iput.
Dalene & Nicole, Thanks for reading each other's posts and carrying the conversation further. I also try to have an area online called "Troubleshooting Guide." It's just tips I've put together over the semesters of things that I know students may have technology issues with. Then, if students have issues they can look there first before contacting me. Thanks again.
Dalene, Thanks for continuing the conversation. Any time you can put a face with a name in an online course, it's great. Keeping the communication going with students and between students is essential. This helps establish that relationship and sense of community. Nice job.

Antonio, Knowing your audience is important in all situations - good point. And, you are right. There are many different learning levels and learning styles. I typically do a pre-test in my class to see what the students know/don't know and that helps me understand what content I can cover quickly or what material I may have to provide supplemental informatiion for. Thanks for your input.

Diane, You are right on track! The important thing for everyone to understand is that a rubric benefits both the students and the instructor. When we all benefit, it's a win win situation. Thanks for your input.
Stephen, Thanks for adding to the conversation. It is great to see commonalities in the postings no matter how old they maay be. Thanks again.
Stephen, Thank you for your indepth response. You are right on target. Ensuring students understand the learning outcomes and expectations is the first step. Providing feedback that is consistent, objective driven and provided to help the students improve is essential. Thanks for continuing the conversation in this forum.
Diane, You are right. Students provide so much helpful email in formative and summative evaluations of your course. Take the information and make your course better. It's a never ending process, but a process well worth the effort. Thanks!

Tyra & Jennifer, Thanks for continuing the conversation. Not all students in a particular generation are exactly the same, but understanding personality traits in general is good. Thanks again.

Richard, The main thing to remember is that rubrics help everyone. The students more clearly understand the expectations and the instructor grades more consistently. Nice job.
