Dalene and Brian, Thanks for continuing the conversation about providing examples for students when it comes to proper, professional communication. It's important to explain to students how communication can be misinterpreted. Nice job.
Dalene, It helps tremendously to provide such examples. I put examples of discussion board communication, professional communication and others in my syllabus. Also, as the instructor serves as a role model in their communication, the students understand even better how to communication. Thanks for your input.

Rebecca, RubiStar is your "friend." ;-) There are others, but I use RubiStar quite a bit, save them to my computer and then tweak them as I change the project or get feedback from students. Rubrics help both the instructor and students. Thanks for your input.

Victoria, Knowing your students and your students understanding what is expected of them are essential. As each student is different, you can learn from them as well. And, I encourage peer interaction as well and call my class a Community of Learners because we all learn from each other. Communication is the key. Thanks for your input.
Victoria, Rubrics are you "friend." ;-) They help both the instructor and the students. They are excellent tools to ensure that everyone understands the expectations and there is consistent grading. Thanks for your input.
Victoria, Good questions to ask. Thanks for making us think! ;-) Accessing the tools and using them appropriately to benefit the students and instructor is important. Evaluating the tool and using the right tool are equally important. Thanks!
Yvette, Right on! Many times people use technology just because it's there, but it's important to determine whether it's the right tool and it works for their particular situation and students. Having information available for students so they know how to use the tool and some troubleshooting tips is also important. Thanks!
Yvette, Thanks for you input. The more feedback we get from others, whether students, peers, other professionals, the better we can revisit our curriculum and make changes. It's an ongoing process.

Cathleen, I totally understand where you are coming from. Although not all people in a certain generation are exactly the same, it's good to understand where your students are coming from as well. Technology plays a role in everyone's lives, but you're right - there definitely a gap between generations. Thanks!
Cathleen, Your are right. You set the tone with your actions/words. You serve as a role model in all capacities. How you develop and organize the syllabus and course say something about you. If you expect your students to be organized and check their email or LMS daily, you have to do the same. If you expect your students to respect others, you must to the same. It's OK to jump in (particularyly after several students have answered questions on a discussion board) and ask another question to enhance the critical thinking. Thanks for your input.
