Roland, We do have to think about where the course fits in the curriculum. Is it the first class or capstone course. The learning objectives will be at different levels within those courses. Thanks for your comments.

Kara, Right. We always have to keep reviewing rubrics just as we review our courses, tests, teaching, etc. It's a continual process to enhance teaching and learning. Thanks for your input.
Kara, Me too. When I create my own rubrics I can then review the project/assignment and make sure it's what I want it to be as well. I use rubric generators to get ideas sometimes for criteria and to see if maybe I've forgotten to put some category in rubric. Thanks for your input.
Kara, Yes, it comes down to the criteria. The criteria must guide the students, but not tell them exactly what to do. It's a great place to focus to help students understand the expectations and how to achieve them. Thanks for your input.

Kara, Yes and keep in mind rubrics help the instructor too. They take the subjectivity out of assessment and provide for more consistency. Thanks for your input.

Molly, I use the 24 hour rule and tell the students exactly when I'll check email. I check during office hours at certain times of day. If you answer too quickly or all the time, they will expect it and you will become a 24-7 instructor. Be careful.

Melissa, Love the word "framework." Sometimes I think we should use a different word for students. Class assignment framework may be the right term to help students understand what the rubric is doing for them. Thanks!

MARIE, Yes and keep in mind that the rubrics help both stuents and instructors. Students need to understand what is expected of them and instructors need to make sure the rubric clearly states that. Thanks!
Discussion Comment
MARIE, No two set of students are alike. We can be teaching two sections of the same course and the class climate is different, the students learn differently, the students interest is different, their experience is different, etc. Thank you.

MARIE and Jane, Today's technology will keep changing too. Who knows what will come out next. ;-) We have to stress professional communication and that does not typically include texting langugage. Thanks for your input.
