Patricia, Agreed. Rubrics can make the difference between students understanding the expectations and those that do not. With effective rubrics in place, students can more effectively reach the learning outcomes.
Discussion Comment
Patricia, Yes, as the students understand the components of the assignment/project, they can more easily reach the set learning outcomes. The rubrics are key in helping students understand the components. Thanks!

francis, The key is that the rubric helps both the instructor and the students. Consistency is the key. This consistency can only occur with good criteria in the development of the rubric. Thank you.
Patricia, The online instructor has to be engaged in the learning process as well as the students. However, it is essential to serve as a facilitator and let students explore and learn things on their own as well. Nice job.
francis, When misinterpretation happens, it must be explained in detail, but as you say, not leaving things open to interpretation is even better. Thanks for your input.
Patricia, Excellent suggestions. Thanks for your input and helping others as they read the posting in this forum. Nice job.
Joseph, Meaningful feedback is important for all students and essential when providing some type of evaluation of students' work. Being positive and constructive in your feedback helps students move closer to the learning outcomes. Thanks!
