Elena, The four key areas you list are excellent. They address the students themselves, the program/course and learning outcomes. We have to connect them all. Nice job.
maryln, I always tell my students, "When you stop learning, you're dead." Professional development is key in "keeping us alive" in the classroom. Thanks for your input.

Stephanie, Personal experiences help the students connect the content to the real world. This is very helpful. Nice job.
maryln, Course design has a huge impact on the online classroom. Students are affected by course design as they need to be able to navigate and find what they are looking for. Thanks!

Merle, Challenging is a great word to describe online learning. Can you give an example of your workday "systems?" Thanks!
Merle and Marilyn, Thanks for continuing the conversation and bringing up the importance of helping students understand and not simply assuming they do. Thanks!
Sharon, I see your point. I think it's important to think about how you approach the students. They're not doing your job, they are developing criteria they think is important to be evaluated on. These may be different criteria than the ones you would choose. They also have to analyze the project/assignment. They are at some point in their life going to have to assess something or someone and they need this skill. That's the way I look at it. Thanks again.

Sharon, Definitely. These are two key words when using rubrics. As we evaluate the rubrics, then we should make changes where necessary. Thanks!

Sharon, Typically I have found that instructors use weighted averages if they think they may add one more quiz or drop the lowest quiz or something like that. Then, no matter how many quizzes (or whatever) they give, they are still 30% (or whatever the weight was). Thanks for the question.

maryln, Good description of the essential parts. There's more to making a good rubric than just "whipping" something up quickly. Thank you.
