Racquel , A consistent, reliable tool - what a good idea! ;-) That's what we are working toward. I'm glad you have the opportunity to give feedback at your institution and I hope they listen carefully. Keep it up!
Racquel , You hit the nail on the head. The objectives should actually be in the rubric. If there is an objective or criteria in the rubric that does not align with the assignment, it's useless. We have to take the time to carefully design the rubrics. Thanks for your input.
Discussion Comment
Eman, Right on! Rubrics help all of those individuals involved in the assignment: students and instructor. Thanks for your input.
Discussion Comment
Wendy, Yes, the expectations should be more clear to the students when using a rubric. We want them to know how to achieve the learning outcomes. Thanks!
Discussion Comment
Rodney, Love that you added the rubric can help both the instructor and the students. We want the students to understand what they are working toward and why. Thanks!
Discussion Comment
Wendy, Your first sentence may say it all. We did grow up with different technologies, different ways of communicating and different experiences. We bring this to the classroom. Thanks!
Discussion Comment
Eman, We are all different whether within or outside a generation. Therefore, we do act different, communicate differently and have different learning personalities. We have to remind ourselves about that. Thanks for your input.
Discussion Comment
Kym, Keep emphasizing professionalism. I had the opportunity to speak with a group of high school students and I explained to them that an email to a professor is a professional setting and should be dealt with as such. Keep it up!
Discussion Comment
Rodney and Mike, I even give examples in my syllabus about what the spellchecker does not catch (i.e., hear/here, their/there, etc.) and note that it is the students responsibility to read documents carefully and be their own spellchecker. Thanks!
Wendy, We do serve a role model to our students. We have to continually remind ourselves of that fact. Thanks!
